A few days ago I was at one of my favorite hangouts, the Orange boat ramps. I saw a man backing his boat to the water, since he was by himself, I went over to see if I could help. After launching his boat we talked a while, he even invited me to go fishing with him. If that isn’t southern hospitality, then I haven’t seen any before.
Well I was at the ramps again today, when the same gentleman came back from fishing. He wasn’t by himself, his daughter was fishing with him. The man’s name is Jim Taylor and his daughter is Stephanie Taylor. Jim lives in Orange and Stephanie lives in Oangefield. They caught a couple of nice redfish.
Jim used to fish at the lakes in east Texas often. The biggest bass he has caught so for is an 8 pounder, but dosen’t go the lakes much any more. That’s OK, Jim and Stephanie both like fishing the river. They said they most always can catch something in the river, and you can’t always predict what’s on the line when they set the hook. Both the redfish were caught on a chatter bait. Stephanie also caught a bass on the same bait. Stephanie has also caught a 75 pound gar, at the the Orange ramps, fishing from the bank. Nice catch Stephanie.
Jim gets to fish about two times a week. Stephanie fishes as often as she can too. She really enjoys fishing with her dad. Stephanie’s enthusiasm for fishing is contagious. Jim fishes out of a Triton TR 186 powered by a Mercury Optimax 150 horse motor. Nice rig Jim. Maybe one day I will get to take you up on that invite to fish with you. Good luck to both of you.
